Aspergillus

Molds are basically types of fungi that mostly grow in humid regions and areas with high humidity levels. As such, growth of mold in houses during humid seasons of the year is not completely uncommon.

In other places, molds grow in rooms that are not well aerated and therefore accumulate a lot of humidity like laundry rooms. There are different types of molds and they all look different in terms of their color and morphology.

However, the identification of the molds in their respective groups is not important when eradicating them from the house.

Aspergillus Mold

This is one of the most common types of mold that grows in homes all over the world. However, unlike most molds, the Aspergillus requires reverse osmosis conditions to do well. In simple terms, this means that they do very well in regions and areas where there is a high concentration of sugar and salt among other solutes.

This is the main reason why Aspergillus molds develop on starchy foods like potatoes and bread among other plants and trees. Besides trees and starchy products, the molds also grow on walls, damp pillows, and other damp surfaces.

This is because they are also able to do well on areas that lack the basic nutrients required for growth in sufficient quantities. This makes the Aspergillus mold very fast spreading and difficult to control.

Effects of Aspergillus mold on humans

1.They cause aspergillosis
This is a common disease that is caused by Aspergillus species of molds. The general symptoms of the disease in human beings include chest pains, fever, cough, and shortness of breath. However, these are also general symptoms for many other diseases that occur in humans and their manifestation cannot, therefore be used to conclusively identify aspergillosis infection. In most cases, the people that manifest these symptoms are those that already have a weakened immune system for attacks by other diseases, especially respiratory diseases. The disease can also take the several forms listed below;

Disseminated invasive aspergillosis. This is an infection that easily spreads through the body once it is ingested or inhaled.

Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis. This mainly affects the patients that already have existing respiratory diseases like sinusitis, asthma, and cystic fibrosis.

Aspergilloma. This usually occurs as a ball that mainly forms on the lungs and other parts of the respiratory system.

Acute invasive aspergillosis. This is a form that grows and spreads to the tissues surrounding the respiratory system and affects these tissues causing complications. This is common for HIV/AIDS patients.

2.They are a source of toxins
Since the molds affect plants in addition to walls in the house, they are responsible for the secretion of toxins like aflatoxin in maize and peanuts. Consumption of these foods with the toxins leads to direct infection and allergic reactions on the body.

3.The aesthetic value of property
The mold grows on all damp surfaces in the house from walls to wood and even pillows. When this mold grows on fabric, it may be difficult or impossible to get it out leading to economic losses or destroying the beauty of the fabric. When the mold grows on wood, it may lead to complete destruction and replacement may be required to ensure that the frame of the house is stable. Growing on the walls also reduces the beauty of the house and it may cost some money to get rid of the molds completely.

Aspergillus mold remediation from the house

Prevention is always better than cure. To prevent the occurrence of the mold in the house ensure that the house is always well ventilated to avoid the accumulation of humidity that encourages the growth of the mold.

Also, ensure that all the food is well stored and preserved to avoid the development of the mold on it.

If the house is already attacked by the use the correct antiseptic and detergent to get it out.

Ensure that you repeat the procedure several times to get rid of the mold completely and ensure that you are in full protective gear when cleaning the mold from the house.

Conclusion

Aspergillus mold is one of the most common types of molds that grow in many households all over the world. In addition to damaging property, the mold can also cause very adverse effects to the health of human beings when the spores are inhaled or come into contact with the skin.

It is important to seek medical attention when the symptoms are experienced as they may be either signs of other diseases they may be caused by the mold.
